Large-scale origami

After an impressive development work the origami-inspired flat-pack kayak I posted about earlier is now in production and can be ordered for $1,195.00. ORU is made from a plastic sheet and folds into a compact package that can be slung over the shoulder for easy portability. Unfolded it becomes a fully functional 12-foot kayak at 25 pounds with adjustable footrest, a foam seat, bungy strap deck rigging, and a rim accomodating a sprayskirt.
According to some reviewers it glides nicely in the water and is easily handled. Some interesting accessories are available: fx a sturdy cordura bag to protect the kayak during flights or to be used as a backpack, a set of solar-powered led-lights that tranforms the kayak to a floating lantern, float bags for safety etc.
On the informative and quite nice web site you will find a lot more info and photos.
