New exciting kayak project

Since summer 2014 a new commercial kayak project has been underways.Together with Petruskajak and Kano og Kajakværkstedet in Denmark I have been busy with a Frej for production – I design and calculate, Petrus builds the plug and Kim takes care of production and marketing.
A couple of days ago we could admire the finished plug, delivered by Petrus to Kano og Kajakværkstedet i Kongens Lyngby. Molds for deck and hull will be cast on the plug, and in these molds the kayaks will be laminated. Kim and I could appreciate the first class job Petrus had done. We studied and felt the finish, put temporary hatches and a compass in the prepared indentations to get an idea of what the finished kayak will look like in a couple of months.
This will be a "real" Frej without any commercial concession – just a couple of barely visible adjustments to facilitate the release from the mold and that only the larger of the two cockpit sizes recommended on the building plans (40x80 cm) will be available in the first series.
...exciting as opening christmas gifts
The schedule is that the first kayaks will be available through Petrus and Kim early this summer.

The visual design is still not established, but below are two suggestions we are contemplating – both with viking associations: a viking knot decoration or a pattern from the Oseberga ship's stem as deck logos? But we may change that more than once before production startup ;-)
