New kayak on the computer!

The last months I have had a couple of requests for a double, based on the Panthera. High on the wishlist has been speed and a more modern or trendy looks than the more classic Alert/2, Thule/2, and Nomad/2. I've been toying with the idea for a while now and last week I started sketching and calculating. Quite soon a promising concept emerged, with a solid hydrodynamic and aesthetic appeal. The new Panthera 2 will be 680 cm long, 59 cm wide (but the drawing also show shorter options; 646 and 629 cm). On the design waterline, it will have a draft of 12 cm, a load capacity of approx 245 kg and an internal volume of 600 liters. The image above is based on the final hull shape.
A long waterline and high Cp (0,57) indicate that Panthera 2 will be a fast kayak for a competent team. The surfski heritage makes it easily maneuvered in all conditions with a solid control surfing big waves. As surfskis in general, Panthera 2 will need a good sized rudder and wires or lines with minimal flex to the pedals.
Panthera 2 will be a little trickier to build than most of my kayaks. The complicated deck shape is the culprit and will require some building experience and ingenuity. Otherwise, the long and slender hull is easily constructed.
I hope to have the finished plans ready to ship sometime next week...
