A new Pearl - this time light grey and comissioned by Chris Russo, NY - has just left the diligent small boat shop in Milan, New Hampshire.
As usual Dan Caouette spoils us with a lot of nice pics of the building project as well as a bunch of "beauty shots" of the finished kayak.
Good luck, Chris, with your Grey Pearl.

Initially I planned to come up at thursday evening, but it had to be friday early instead – and perhaps just as fine considering the reports of massive mosquito attacks.
Friday started with a tour in solitude around the islands - afternoon was "work hours", i e talking about kayak building, paddling, paddles kayak design with old and new friends and lending kayaks for testing etc.

This weekend was yacht fair in Helsingborg. Mostly the usual stuff – float after float with luxury yacht look-alikes in white or blue plastics, the rowing club, a sauna in a tub on a float, a floating porch with an electric motor, the coast guard with boats and an information tent – and then the very dynamic kayak corner in the northern part of the harbour where the action was

Just the other day I happened to find an unusually good piece of wood for a paddle, a straight grained 2x2 – to good to pass. I wasn´t looking for wood at all, but this piece out of hundreds of similar, did catch my attention.

This weekend is a Boat Fair in Helsingborg in the south of Sweden. KajakEvent is participating with a bunch of kayaks to look at and try. I will do some rolling demos and Ram Silval from Nepal will show acrobatics in a white water kayak.
My times are saturday at 13-13.30 and 16-16.30, and sunday at 12-12.30 and 14-14.30. I will be available for a talk on paddling, kayaks, kayak building and such most of the time during the weekend. There will be time to try out my Black Pearl or Njord for those interested.

Hello Björn.
Just want to you to know that my "Wooden Pearl" is launched and paddled (weight 12,4 kg without the deck hardware). She feels like a thoroughbred compared to my Nomad. Very stimulating. Handrolls do not work yet, but I have full confidence in my "bombproof" paddle rolls. How many BP:s are built in Sweden and the world?
Thanks for advice and support during the building process!
Regards Jim Ansund

Last sunday one of my best paddles broke at a rolling class - a strong guy forgot what the class was about and tried to roll up with brute force instead of technique. 6" from the tip the paddle snapped.
My initial reaction was to discard it and build a new. But on the way home I began thinking of a repair. This is how it turned out.
