Igår kom ett paket från ett polskt snickeri, med en ny träpaddel av alaskamodell. Ett mail bad mig testa och kommentera, och tanken är att snickeriet skall starta serietillverkning av både den och grönlandspaddlar – på lite sikt även andra typer och i andra material.

Cardboard is an interesting and useful material, but this must be something special: a strong, tough and light bicycle in cardboard! In this 6 m video, the Israeli engineer Izhar Gafni shows and tells how and why he chosed to build a bike in cardboard – with material strength demos and nice clips of biking around. ”When we are told it's impossible, we knew it's the right way to be done”.
The commenter who a year ago or so insisted that this site should paddling and nothing more, may find some concolation in the fact that Izhar Gafni shows a cardboard canoe as main inspiration source for his bike project.

Nordic Kayaks has three surfskis on the market for 2013. Rapido is already available, the first Breeze has just arrived in Sweden and the top model will be available sometimes during the spring. The pictures show the final design scheme. For more information, take a look at Nordics site.

Men är vi nu ändå inne på farkoster där hörselskydd är minst lika viktiga som flytväst, finns det kanske mer effektiva system?
Eller om man tröttnar på oljudet kan kanske en värmemotor från tidigt 1800-tal passa.

Occasionally I get questions about fitting a bulbous bow on kayaks. Many large ships have such a bow to decrease fuel consumtion at speed. Wouldn't it allow for greater speeds in a kayak?
Well, I wouldn't bother.
A bulb protruding under water from the bow, creates a wave ahead of the wave created by the ships bow. The two waves are out of phace and partially cancel out, reducing the ships wave resistance.
