Njord - Leif Högdahl

Ny Njord i Halmstad

Ny Njord i Halmstad

Speciellt i lite sjögång o bryt.

Hilsen
Erik Frantzen

Assammik masikkut? Nope, not today!

Summer in mid september

It was Vikhög and Salviken under a hot sun today. I was detemined to fix that hand roll ending on the foredeck (Assammik masikkut), that have eluded me for almost a year now, but was so close last weekend in Denmark. Irritatingly close today as well - i got up, did not manage to stay up, but slided slowly back into the water every time. Extyremely annoying. But next time!

The good advice from Per meant a significant step forward though - I did not miss a single norsamik masikkut (forwardleaning norsaqroll). Til now I have failed at every other attempt, without knowing what I did wrong.

Fusion launched...

Testing in the archipelago of Stockholm

If you these days are overtaken by something long, narrow, carbon black and very fast, it may have been the new Fusion hybrid surfski that is going through the last steps of finetuning in different locations in the archipelago of Stockholm and in different weather conditions. More pics on the Nordic Kayak site.

A few experiences and pics from Leif in Norrland (northern Sweden)

Hej Björn!

Have noted that Njord is one of the more popular of your models, judging from the launching page. I am getting used to the kayak now, even if it still feels a little tippy in waves. I have practiced rolling and feel quite confident now. Njord is so easily rolled that it feels almost like cheating.

In an earlier mail I promised more pics. Here are some from e three-day tour in Luleå archipelago. Couldn´t resist the pattern in the sand on Sandy Island together with my Njord. Note the pointed mahogany strips - I spent a few extra working hours there...

Qajaqtraef på Själland

Campingplatsen
Folk droppar in under fredagseftermiddagen

Kavat and Isfjord in Värmland

The kayaks at Letälven

"Hi Björn! Finally a photo of my two kayaks. A Kavat built in 2008 and an Isfjord in 2009. Kavat in fir and Isfjord in WRC. The photo is from an outing with my son Björn in river Letälven between degerfors and Åtorp.

Will soon order canoe plans since building strip crafts has become my winter pastime.

Kavat in Arendal, Norway

Erik Dunseth in a new Kavat

Hi Bjørn;

Have just launched my Kavat. It has been a really nice project and even if I am new to paddling I find the kayak a joy to paddle. I adjusted the design slightly, raised the stem and deck in front of the cockpit 30 mm.

Erik Dunseth´s new Kavat

I look forward to many nice trips with Kaya.

Best regards Erik Dunseth

Note: Eriks text is in Norwegian - the translation is mine,

An "Illorsuit" for Seabird Designs

My cooperation with Seabird Designs is over - our opinions about quality, customers and service differ too much.

In the summer 1959 a young student, Kenneth Taylor, was sent to Greenland by his professor on a research trip to study kayaks and kayaking culture in the Igdlorsuit area. To Greenland he brought his English plywood kayak - on the journey back he had a real greenland kayak, built for him by Emanuele Korneliussen in Illorsuit. It measured 505x53 cm and had the low deck - 20 cm in front of the cockpit - and low midship sheer, typical for the region. It was built in six days, with timber imported from Denmark.

Stockenträffen 2009

Kajakparkeringen
